The
north of the island around Pollensa offers some of the most breathtaking
and inspiring scenery in the world. Mountainous peaks, skirted by colourful
countryside entice you to explore a vast network of roads and paths. All
of this lies on the shore line of the panoramic Pollensa Bay.
One of the most interesing ways to discover the area is on foot, and We
will once again be offering guided walks to suit most levels of fitness.
Leading you through the mountains and local countryside will be Richard
Strutt whose knowledge of the local environment is second to none. We
have shown 6 of our favourite walks; there are more available, details
of which are available locally. |

VALLDEMOSSA/DEIA - 8 miles Grade C + Price: 3,500 ptas
A walk that offers this much is hard to come by. You'll travel along the ancient
pathway over the Son Gallard Coll, which links the two villages of Valldemossa
and Deia, whose beauty Chopin, Luis Salvador and Robert Graves fell in love
with.
TUENT - 7.5 miles Grade C +, Price 3,500 ptas
Start your day high above Puerto Soller on the west coast, drinking in the scenery
that the Ses Barques has to offer, From here you travel through centuries old
olive terracing to reach our picnic spot at a 16th century farmhouse at the
bottom of the valley. After lunch you'll climb out of the valley to meet the
welcoming breeze for the costal section of the day. On arrival at Cala Tuent
the choice is easy: a long cool drink, a swim, or both! Then your driver will
take you back to Puerto Pollensa via the impressive Sa Calobra road.
CAMI S'ARXIDUC - 8.5 miles Grade B+, Price 3,500 ptas
The Cami S'Arxiduc is an extremely well engineered route built ath the request
of the Archduke Luis Salvador, so that he could easily ride his horse around
the steep cliffs to view all the land and properties he owned in the villages
of Valldemossa and Deia below.
CASTELL D'ALARO - 6 miles Grade C+, Price 3,000 ptas
Your excursion starts through the charming reclusive valley of Orient, climbing
through centuries old olive terracing to arrive at the Moorish castle perched
high above. The castle itself is steeped in history, being the scene of many
a battle between the Moors and the Christians. The views from here are outstanding,
and you should be able to make out the cathedral down in the capital. The descent
gives you the opportunity to sample some real Mallorcan hospitality at the typical
hillside restaurant of "Es Verger". But beware of the landlady's home-made wine
- it has been known to affect your legs!
PILGRIM STEPS - 8.5 miles Grade C+, Price: 3,500 ptas
A coach will take you high into the hills to Cuber Reservoir, a magical place
where it is not unusual to see one of the islands black vultures glide overhead.
Your hike takes you through spectacular scenery along a centuries old pilgrim
path, which drops into a dramatic gorge known as "the Barranc". The route from
here is nearly all downhill to the picture postcard town of Soller, where you'll
catch the 1912 San Francisco Tram to the waters edge, and your coach for the
journey back to Puerto Pollensa.
ROCA BLANCA/FUMAT - 5 miles Garde B+, Price: 4,500 ptas
This excursion boasts extensive views. It is a two peak walk with the chance
to while away the afternoon at a hidden bay not far from the Formentor lighthouse.
